Spring 2026 Whitman Crew Registration

Welcome

Spring 2026 Whitman Crew Registration

Welcome to Whitman Crew! We are excited to welcome all returning and new families to the team, and we look forward to seeing all rowers and coxswains for the start of the Spring Season on Monday, February 23.

Novice Families, please note that there is a bus for novices TO weekday practices, but we do not provide return transportation. You will need to make arrangements for your athlete to get home from TBC each afternoon.

As you are registering for the Spring season, we want to provide you with an outline of the financial obligations for the year. There is a lot of information here, so please read through it carefully and contact the Board President, Manu Basu (president@WhitmanCrew.org), if you have any questions.

Thank you all in advance for your support of this amazing team - the largest club sport at Whitman!

Financial Contributions:

Registration Fees – Registration fees are broken down by season. Fees cover (some, but not all of) the costs of coaching; non-select regattas; boat storage, insurance, and maintenance; bus transportation for the Novice team to Thompson Boat Center (TBC); and administrative costs. We are grateful if fees are paid in full at the time of registration, but if needed they can be broken down into two installments per season. Our spring season fees are $1400 per athlete.

Fundraising & Capital Contribution - As a club, we receive no financial assistance from the state of Maryland, Montgomery County, or Walt Whitman High School. We rely on the generosity of family, friends, alumni, and community partners to ensure the continuity and continuous improvement of our team, and meeting fundraising commitments is also integral to being able to set registration fees. This year each high school athlete is responsible for a fundraising minimum of $1,100 in a way that best suits their family’s personal fundraising preferences. Athletes and families can choose to fundraise through any or all of the following options:

o   Spring Fundraiser (details to follow)

o   Soliciting corporate sponsorships

o   Making a personal donation

Please view the Fundraising Toolkit for additional ideas and templates. Regardless of your fundraising method, all funds are due by March 15, 2026 IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SPRING REGATTAS.

Additional Information

Practices start on Monday February 23 and are held Monday-Friday after school and on Saturday mornings at Thompson Boat Center (TBC) in Georgetown. Please be sure you are signed up for the Whitman Crew Slack channel to receive updates from the coaches.

Fees for “select” regattas (coaches select the participants) will range from $400 - $800 per event. Advance notice will be provided for those athletes who will be traveling.

Spring Break training on the Occoquan is an integral part of the success of the Spring season. It is mandatory for all high school athletes and is also a ton of fun for the team. Whitman Crew Spring Break dates are March 30-April 3, with overnights on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31. Friday, April 3rd will be a half day. We understand that families will be celebrating religious holidays during spring break; practice times should not interfere with those celebrations. Athletes can reach out to their coaches if they have conflicts. Fees for spring break have not yet been finalized.

Personal contributions for Fundraising and/or the Capital Contribution can alternatively be made by check, ACH, or Donor Advised Funds.
